Synopsis of the Advanced Literature Course

The classical works studied in this Advanced Literature Course originate from French-speaking countries (Canada, Africa, Europe).

One book (sometimes two)- divided into 5 parts - is studied per session (12 hours). The first 2-hour class focuses on presenting the work, the vocabulary and verb tenses used (e.g., past anterior, second form of the past conditional, etc.).

The 5 other classes each correspond to one of the 5 parts of the book (in general, about fifty pages must be read during the week prior to the class) .

In class:

  • Review of the vocabulary used
  • Review of the author's style
  • Review of the stylistic effects (technique)
  • Character development
  • Plot development
  • The different semantic fields encountered

Followed by a discussion on the themes of the section read.
