Alliance Française de Toronto is the only exam centre for French-government accredited and internationally recognized tests and diplomas in the GTA.

What are the DELF and DALF diplomas?

The DELF (Diplôme d'Études en Langue Française) and the DALF (Diplôme Approfondi de Langue Française) are official diplomas awarded by the French Ministry of Education to certify the competency of candidates from outside France in the French language. DELF and DALF are composed of 6 diplomas that have been harmonized with the European standards corresponding to the 6 levels of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages since Sept. 1, 2005.

At each level, 4 skills are evaluated: listening, speaking, reading, and writing.

A junior version of the DELF also exists for junior and high school students.

For detailed information about each level of these diplomas, visit the website of CIEP(Centre International d'Études Pédagogiques).

Who can take the diplomas?

Anyone who is not a native French-speaker and who would like his/her French skills to be recognized for personal or professional purposes can take the exams. These diplomas are also recognized by some French universities and Grandes Écoles as meeting French language requirements for entry.

What diplomas should I take?

The 6 DELF and DALF diplomas are independent from one another, so you can take the examination of your choice. You can also sit the examination for a number of diplomas during the same examination session. If you are unsure of the level you should take, contact the Alliance Française de Toronto for a free placement test.

How do I prepare for the exam?

A preparation course for the DELF and DALF may be available at the Downtown Toronto campus location of Alliance Française. Contact us to find out! Alliance Française also sells materials that will help you self-study specifically for your exam.

Where and when can I take the exam?

The next series of exams will be offered the week of June 7, 2010.
