The TEF (Test d’Evaluation du Français) is a test administered by the Chambre de Commerce et d'Industrie de Paris(CCIP). The TEF is recognized by Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) as conclusive proof of your language skills.

All non-native French speakers who wish, for personal or professional reasons, to officially assess their skills in French are eligible for the TEF.

It assesses candidates from an elementary to an advanced level. No specific qualification or training is required to take the TEF.

The TEF includes:

  • Three compulsory tests: a total of 2.30 hours
    • Reading comprehension: (1 hour)
    • Listening comprehension: (40 minutes)
    • Structures & Vocabulary: (30 minutes)
  • Two optional tests (2 hours)
    • Written expression (1 hour)
    • Oral expression (35 minutes)

The test results vary for every individual and are validated by an official document attesting to the points earned for each section and the linguistic and communication objectives attained. Therefore it is impossible to fail the TEF.

This certificate is valid for one year from the date one takes the exam.

The sections are based on various exercises and activities. For further information, please check the TEF website.

  • Compulsory modules: 9:30 am - 12:00 noon
  • Optional modules: starting from 1:30 pm (exact time will be given on the day of the exam depending on the number of registrations. Please book your afternoon off.)
