A home for arts, culture and recreation…in French!

Alliance Francaise is offering throughout the year a blend of activities for students 5-15 years old and to their schools’ communities committed in learning/teaching French as a second Language.


 

During school year (September to June)

After-school program
Mondays to Fridays from 3 PM to 6 PM, an exciting program is open to students 5-11 years old. Students participate in artistic and fun afterschool activities, all in French.

Field trip
Our cultural department offers various workshops and activities that inspire learning in students. Through workshops, activities and special exhibitions, our programs encourage students to practice and improve their skills in French as a second language.

Children will have the opportunity to combine their artistic side with their DIY abilities by making items that are fun and handy. Following the 3R (reduce, reuse, recycle), they use natural or recycled materials as much as possible.

Welcome Morgane at your Home! Morgane is young, dynamic and quite inventive! She grew up in Mississauga and is presently studying Sciences in McGill. She joined the EXPLORUM team last year; the children loved her patience, her creativity and were quite impressed by her proficiency as a Karateka!

Discover the benefits of classical yoga through a basic routine and be introduced to the five points of yoga that lead to wellness, according to Swami Vishnudevananda: Proper Exercise (asanas), Proper Breathing (pranayama), Proper Relaxation (savasana ), Proper Diet (vegetarian), Positive thinking and Meditation (vedanta and dhyana).

The practice of classical yoga involves a holistic approach. It shows us how to balance and harmonize the body, mind and soul, so that we can have a healthy body, a balanced mind and experience the inner peace that is already within. It also gives us the ability to remain calm and focused when confronted with the daily challenges of modern life.

Conducted by a francophone teacher of the Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Centre

Beginner level

For those who have little or never practiced yoga. With a gentle yoga approach, students will practice full yogic breathing, neck and eye exercises as well as Sun salutations (surya namaskar) and some of the 12 basic postures. No prior yoga experience is required.

The Franc’Open Mic team -- the famous francophone open stage of Toronto -- invites you to a set of slam poetry writing workshops.

You will learn different tools and techniques to practice this oratorical art.

At the end of these workshops, the more inspired ones will be invited to perform in front of a passionate and welcoming audience of the Franc’Open Mic stage.

Program:

Workshop #1: Introduction to slam poetry

Discovery of the culture of slam poetry ; its history, icons ands rules

Workshop #2 : Techniques

Discovery of the writing techniques applied to slam poetry: rhymes, metaphors, assonances, figures of speech, etc.

Workshop #3 : Write about yourself

How to write about yourself, share your opinion, and personal story through interesting texts

Workshop #4 : Imagination

A work on development of creativity, private spaces, imaginary worlds and fictional stories

Workshop #5 : Preparation of a text and staged reading to perform on stage

Advice and preparation for the staging. Support in interpretation and expression of texts in front of a group.

Language activities - (5-7 yrs) in groups of 6

The activities have been designed or selected by FSL professionals so that each participant can enjoy them according to their age and their French language skills (from absolute beginners to intermediates). Every day is an opportunity to dive into a theme and develop communication skills related to it.

Homework support - (8-11 yrs) in groups of 6

Bring your homework and get it done! Our tutor helps all participants in their homework. Tasks can be done individually or in sub-groups. When we see an opportunity for improving a skill in French, we also supply francophone and francophile children with designed practices.
