Alliance française Toronto is happy to welcome Mark-Alexandre Montout's movie Karukera on October 19th.

As part of the creole month, Perle Noire Ent. will present Karukera, a reflexion on Guadeloupe situation.

The point of view of media on French West indies is alarming and seems to be narrowed in a few words : Delinquency, violence, unemployment, addiction. A true analysis, since in 2013, Guadeloupe had the record of the deadliest french departement. The directore tried to show a more complex reality than the one provided by media. He let locals talk about identity questions, deterioration of family values, daily life difficulties because of the standard of living, unemployment. He particulary let the youth talk about the loss of their bearing, distress, fatalism, victimization and idleness

The movie will be screened in creole and in french. There will be english subtitles.

A cocktail reception with caribbean flavors will be held from 6:30 =pm in the theatre before the screening. The film will be followed by a discussion with the director Mark-Alexandre Montout.
