Event Description

The Toronto Radio Cooperative, 30 Years of Challenges to Create a Francophone Radio in Canada's Largest City!

By Christian Martel, retired professional communicator and writer

Why has the road been so long to establish a French-language community radio station in Toronto, from the first community planning day in 1988? What were the obstacles?  How did the various boards of directors overcome them?  How did the 1986 French Language Services Act become the spark?  What were the debates, and why was a lawsuit against the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) necessary in 2001 to get things moving? Join Christian to hear the answers to these questions. The whole thing will be peppered with anecdotes, lessons learned, and the pride of being able to hear the Francophone community on CHOQ-FM 105.1 for 16 years now.

Language: French
