Birds and Music

Birds and Music
03-06-2024 7:00 pm
Spadina Theatre Free

Event Description

Many composers of classical music were inspired by our feathered friends. But which composers...and which birds? What instruments and musical effects are most often used...and why? How did knowledge of ornithology influence their choices? Poetry and ancient legends also enter into the matter.

From Mozart to Messiaen, from Schubert to Stravinsky and many others, we will discover them. Neither a keen sense of hearing nor a musical background is necessary to enjoy this presentation. Even those with a bird’s brain or a bird’s appetite will enjoy it!

Lecture by: Susan Spier, musician and lecturer
