Ten-year-old Johnny lives with his mother and siblings on a working-class housing estate in Forbach, in northeastern France. He's a sensitive, intellectually precocious kid, and he watches his single mother cycle through one unstable relationship after another. Everything shifts when his new teacher, Mr. Adamski, spots something special in him and starts opening up a much bigger world than the one Johnny's known. That quiet shift in attention sets off a deeper awakening, social, emotional, and personal all at once.
Softie (original title Petite Nature) is the second feature from director Samuel Theis, who previously co-directed Party Girl, winner of the Caméra d'Or at Cannes in 2014. It premiered in the Critics' Week sidebar at the 2021 Cannes Film Festival and went on to win the top prize at the Thessaloniki International Film Festival that same year.
It's a quiet, tender, ultimately devastating portrait of a kid on the edge of something much bigger than himself.

Venue Information - Spadina Theatre
Created by Hariri Pontarini Architects, the Alliance Française Toronto theatre opened in the spring of 2014. Since then, more than 200 artists and events have been held there all year long, within a warm and intimate atmosphere. This 147-seat auditorium invites you to join us for musical performances of all genres, as well as film screenings, lectures, and stage plays.
Entrance to the theatre is on Lowther Avenue. The doors open 20 minutes prior to the beginning of each event.

Coat Check
