Beirut, 1982. Georges, a French theatre director, arrives in a city torn apart by civil war to honour a promise made to a dying friend: to stage Jean Anouilh's Antigone on the front line. Guided by Marwan, his driver and de facto translator into the realities of the conflict, Georges discovers a city where art and ideology collide daily. As rehearsals progress, he falls in love with Imane, the Palestinian actress playing Antigone. But as fighting reignites along the city's dividing lines, everything he believed about the power of art, is put to the ultimate test.
A film about the fragile, sometimes futile, power of theatre to create peace amid chaos, and the cost of crossing the line between the stage and reality.

Venue Information - Spadina Theatre
Created by Hariri Pontarini Architects, the Alliance Française Toronto theatre opened in the spring of 2014. Since then, more than 200 artists and events have been held there all year long, within a warm and intimate atmosphere. This 147-seat auditorium invites you to join us for musical performances of all genres, as well as film screenings, lectures, and stage plays.
Entrance to the theatre is on Lowther Avenue. The doors open 20 minutes prior to the beginning of each event.

Coat Check
Coat check is located in the basement of the Spadina Theatre and is available at no charge for every event. Alliance Française is not responsible for any lost or stolen items.
