Intervals of Thread and the Optics of Space
Exhibitions

Event Description
“Intervals of Thread and the Optics of Space” demonstrates Sofia Escobar’s exploration of textile art through cultural inspirations and technological innovations. By merging traditional techniques with modern approaches and technologies, she challenges the conventional understanding of textiles and pushes the boundaries of traditional artistic practices. Through the use of pattern design, colour, repetition, and interplay with space, Sofia Escobar creates a unique visual language that invites viewers to reconsider their perception of textiles and their relationship with space. This innovative approach to textile art contributes to the discourse on material culture, spatial design, and artistic expression.
Sofia Escobar is a multidisciplinary artist born and raised in Peru and Canada. She completed her studies in Material Art & Design at OCAD University in Toronto. She has shown her work in various mediums, including textile art and film at The Textile Museum of Canada, Jackman Hall at the AGO, and has recently created site-specific installations at Ontario Place and Nathan Phillips Square. She is known for her unique approach to exploring material and space in her art practice.
