The Siren (2023) marks the feature animation debut of Sepideh Farsi, an Iranian-born, Paris-based filmmaker. Set in November 1980, the film takes us to the port city of Abadan at the outbreak of the Iran-Iraq war. When Iraqi missiles strike the city's vast oil refinery, fourteen-year-old Omid's world falls apart. His mother and sister flee — but Omid stays behind, determined to look after his grandfather and find his older brother, who has rushed off to fight.
Farsi was a high school student in Iran when the war began. At sixteen, she was imprisoned for her activism against the Islamic Republic, and left for France in 1984. All of her films remain banned in Iran.

Venue Information - Spadina Theatre
Created by Hariri Pontarini Architects, the Alliance Française Toronto theatre opened in the spring of 2014. Since then, more than 200 artists and events have been held there all year long, within a warm and intimate atmosphere. This 147-seat auditorium invites you to join us for musical performances of all genres, as well as film screenings, lectures, and stage plays.
Entrance to the theatre is on Lowther Avenue. The doors open 20 minutes prior to the beginning of each event.

Coat Check
Coat check is located in the basement of the Spadina Theatre and is available at no charge for every event. Alliance Française is not responsible for any lost or stolen items.
