Nineteen anonymous and celebrated women share their personal stories of afro hair, tracing its aesthetic, social and political journey from pre-colonial times through the Black Panther movement and today's YouTube tutorials. Together, they map a history of erasure, resistance, and reclamation.
Afro Hair explores the deep social and political dimensions of Black and mixed-race women's relationship to their hair, a relationship shaped by centuries of colonial pressure to conform, and transformed by the global rise of the natural hair movement. Set to an irresistibly upbeat soundtrack, the series is a pop-toned ode to individual and collective self-acceptance.

Venue Information - Spadina Theatre
Created by Hariri Pontarini Architects, the Alliance Française Toronto theatre opened in the spring of 2014. Since then, more than 200 artists and events have been held there all year long, within a warm and intimate atmosphere. This 147-seat auditorium invites you to join us for musical performances of all genres, as well as film screenings, lectures, and stage plays.
Entrance to the theatre is on Lowther Avenue. The doors open 20 minutes prior to the beginning of each event.

Coat Check
Coat check is located in the basement of the Spadina Theatre and is available at no charge for every event. Alliance Française is not responsible for any lost or stolen items.
