Event Description

Compagnie du Barrage

Adapted from the novel by Marguerite Duras Adaptation, direction and acting: Maud Andrieux

India in the 1930s and French diplomacy. The Vice-Consul, far from home, on the other side of the world, in the middle of a stench, a misery, a nameless horror, commits the unspeakable to relieve other men. In Calcutta, while waiting for a new assignment, only Anne-Marie Stretter, the Ambas- sador’s wife, gets close to him. Under general indifference, he is perhaps the only one who is still human. The performance for The Vice-Consul embodies the role of the writer according to Duras, which is to say, the unacceptable.

The Vice-Consul will be touring the Alliance Française network in Canada (Ottawa, Halifax, Edmonton, Calgary).
