Why did we choose this film?
A sensitive subject, a troubling movie. Through this movie by Zeller, we get an empathetic portrait of the feeling of disorientation within. It is one of the most disturbing films about recent memory, and you won't forget it.
THE FATHER tells the story of an 81-year-old man, Anthony, whose reality is slowly shattering before our eyes. But it is also the story of Anne, his daughter, who tries to accompany him through a maze of unanswered questions.
Anthony, 80, categorically refuses help from his daughter Anne when he begins to have dementia. As he struggles to understand his changing situation, he begins to doubt the intentions of those close to him, of his own mind, and he loses touch with reality. Many upheavals then occur, between Anne's move to Paris and the arrival of Laura, a young home caregiver.
