At 7PM, join us for a conversation Closer With Literature.

How can you pass on your cultural heritage through your literary and artistic work? Watch a rich dialogue between Canadian author Kim Thùy and French author and illustrator Clément Baloup. Discover the artistic universe of these two authors through a reading of the book Em, Kim Thuy's latest work, and, as a response to the tale, the speed painting creation for the comic by Clément Baloup, Les Engagés de Nouvelle-Calédonie.

Who is Kim Thùy ?

Kim Thúy left Vietnam with the boat people at the age of ten and settled with her family in Quebec. With degrees in translation and law, the writer has worked as a designer, interpreter, lawyer and restaurant owner. Kim Thúy has received several awards, including the Governor General's Literary Prize 2010, and was one of the four finalists for the Alternative Nobel in 2018. Her books, which have sold over 765,000 copies worldwide, have been translated in 29 languages and 40 countries and territories. Kim Thúy lives in Montreal and devotes herself to writing.

Who is Clément Baloup ?

Clément Baloup grew up between Corsica, Tahiti, the South of France and Guyana. He keeps a strong taste for travel and a curiosity for all cultures. After studying Applied Arts in Marseille, then Fine Arts in Angoulême and Hanoi (Vietnam), Clément Baloup published his first comics in 2004. He explored the fates caught in the turmoil of war and immigration - the Mémoires series by Viet Kieu - but also social struggles, such as that of the Fralib, a Provencal workers' cooperative, fighting against the giant Unilever.
