Talks - Talk in French

Every year, Alliance Française Toronto and Société d'Histoire de Toronto offer you many interesting talks, focused on different topics. This year, get to know more about the Métis communities in Eastern Canada.

Talk in French by Lisette Mallet

How do you get where you want to go without losing your bearings?

The most recent census shows that between 2006 and 2016, people who self-identified as Métis increased by 150% in Canada. Rather than being good news, it created controversy and concern from one end of the country to the other. The speaker, who is from the Acadian Peninsula in northeastern New Brunswick, has already spoken to us about her Métis background and the arrowhead sash. She will now explore the origins of the Métis communities in Eastern Canada, at the crossroads of several cultures, languages and identities.

How does it work?

Sign up here and you will receive a Zoom link the night before the event. The presentation will last 1h. All of your questions are certainly welcome and the talk will be interactive.
