You are invited to an online talk on the theme: discovery of outer space on Saturday September 25, 2021.

This talk is co-presented with the French Consulate in Toronto and Radio Canada.


This talk will be presented in French only.

Through Elsa De Smet's explanations, we will immerse ourselves in the discovery of space and discover what it has brought. Linking research and passion, Elsa De Smet offers you an online talk adapted to all levels ; curious, amateurs or professionals!

From the first photograph of the Moon to the most recent illustrations of celestial objects, the images are also witnesses to the history of science, technology and communication that is made. They tell the story of the space adventure and script the promises of a future in space. If they need knowledge and aesthetics to exist, what do these images tell us about our cultural relationship to outer space sciences?

Who will be your speaker?


Elsa De Smet is a doctor in art history, a specialist in visual studies, a university teacher, and a researcher at La Fémis in the framework of the OCAV project at PSL University. She is also the author of Voir l'Espace - Astronomie et science populaire illustrée (1840-1969), published in 2018 by the Strasbourg University Press.
