Lecture - Talk

By Ted Rutland

Modern urbanism is dedicated to improving human life. And yet, its impact on racialized communities has generally strayed from this ideal: it has tended to undermine rather than improve life. This lecture, based on the book Displacing Blackness, explores how urbanism attempted to improve life in Halifax in the 20th century and how it affected the city’s Black communities.
