Lecture - Talk

By Gilles Genty

In retrospect, the First World War marked the end of a world, and it is no exaggeration to say that Europe will never recover. A major conflict, it inflamed nationalist passions and, contrary to what has been said, the involvement of artists was total. Works of art would not cease being produced with the end of the conflict, and graveyard sculptures, monuments, and other commemorative scenes will be there so that the flame of remembrance will never be extinguished.
