Poland, December 1945.
Mathilde Beaulieu, a young Red Cross intern in charge of treating French survivors before their repatriation, is called to help by a Polish nun.
At first reluctant, Mathilde agreed to follow her to her convent where thirty Benedictines lived cut off from the world. She discovers that several of them, pregnant in dramatic circumstances, are about to give birth.
Little by little, complex relationships are formed between Mathilde, an atheist and rationalist, and the nuns, attached to the rules of their vocation, which danger will sharpen...
Yet it is together that they will find their way back to life.
