Exhibition - In collaboration with the Institut Français & the French Embassy in Canada

From October 14 to December 18, 2020

The French Embassy in Canada, the Institut français and Alliance Française Toronto invite you to dive into the magical unvierse of "Machine à Bulles".

Do you miss cultural events and live shows? Do not worry! The exhibition "Machines à Bulles" brings art directly on your screens! Through 11 online comics, dive into fantasy stories, thrillers, insights on climate issues or even video games if that's what you like! There is something for everyone.

Have you ever been stuck in a bed for days, weeks, even months ? In this situation, most people would switch on the TV or read books to pass the time... However, in 2017, when the artist Elly Oldman gets stuck in her bed after an accident, she puts her mind on a quite crazy project : to begin nothing less than an infinite drawing! As crazy as it might sound, her goal is achieved : the drawing has become an amazing fresco in which shapes are blending within other shapes, places, people, animals... The lines are entangled, overlapping each other, always in black and white. Details are hiding everywhere and make you want to dive into the drawing without even kowing what you will find. Weirdness, humour, tenderness, elements from ordinary life: in the end, that's what the drawing is really about and that's why everyone will find a reason to enjoy it!

From being just a way of passing time, Elly Oldman's project became a massive drawing on Instagram (no less than 200 posts and almost 20k followers). The artist then teamed up with Electroni[k] to turn it into a great interactive and immersive fresco. Don't try to find a clear storyline, there's none. Elly Oldman rather invites you to let you mind go from pattern to pattern, giving way to your imagination. By doing so you will discover that as random as it seems at first glance, some patterns appear again and again, especially about environnemental issues...
