DELF PRIM is designed for children aged 8 to 11 who are learning French as a foreign language, whether in a core French program, French immersion, or other school tracks.

The upcoming DELF PRIM sessions are:

December 7 to December 9 2026, depending on the level chosen:

• A1.1: Monday, December 7
• A1: Tuesday, December 8
• A2: Wednesday, December 9

The exam assesses four key language skills:

• Listening
• Reading
• Writing
• Speaking

The format is similar to the adult DELF, but all topics are adapted for younger learners.

Listening, reading, and writing:

• A1.1: 45 minutes
• A1: 1 hour 10 minutes
• A2: 1 hour 25 minutes

Speaking:

• A1.1: 10 minutes
• A1: 10 minutes
• A2: 15 minutes

Please make yourself available the whole day, the speaking part will be before or after the group test, one after one.

Schedules will not be subject to change or negotiation. You will receive a notification around 2 weeks prior to the exam with the time for each part.

Candidates must score at least 50/100 overall, with a minimum of 5/25 on each section. Scores below 5 in any section are failing.

The DELF Prim has three levels: A1.1, A1, and A2.

• A1.1 (Beginner – Absolute Beginner): Candidates can recognize and use a few very common words and expressions, understand simple short instructions, introduce themselves in a minimal way, and communicate in a very limited manner in highly structured situations.
• A1 (Beginner): Candidates can communicate in simple everyday and professional situations, exchange basic information, and use common polite expressions.
• A2 (Elementary): Candidates can understand and take part in simple, routine exchanges, and make themselves understood in concrete personal or professional situations.

The cost of this evaluation is $20 CAD.

The exam fee is $115 CAD ($80 + + $35 admin fees).

No. All exams are in person at one of our exam centers: Toronto, North York, Mississauga, Markham, or Oakville.

3. Select your child as the participant and complete the registration.

2. Answer the required questions. All information will appear on the certificate, so please check it carefully.
3. Proceed with payment if you would like to receive your certificate by mail.

No. DELF PRIM must be taken in full, including listening, reading, writing, and speaking.

You will receive an automatic receipt (not your official exam invitation).

The official invitation will arrive by email roughly two weeks before the exam (check spam folders).

If there’s an error on the diploma, reissuing it incurs a fee and may take several weeks or months.

• Only the exam materials provided are allowed.

Results are emailed about six weeks after the exam. Each paper is graded by two certified examiners and all grades are final.

Yes, by appointment only at the exam center within one year. Only the candidate or their parents may review the paper. No photocopies, photos, or notes are allowed.

Diplomas are printed in France and delivered to the exam centers about four months after the exam. To receive the diploma by mail, payment must be made at registration.
