Karine Barrass

Originally from France, she has been a professional photographer for fifteen years, using knowledge of graphics (since 1996) and perfume (since 1999) to blend both forms of personal expression, and engagement of the senses. Over the past four years, she has become an expert in the five senses, working in the community and in francophone schools in the GTA. She offers activities for all - children or seniors, individuals or companies, scholars or those who are simply curious.

Adrienne Medjo

Adrienne Medjo, Specialist in African Literature, she graduated with a diploma in Ritual Theatre at “l'Université Paris Ouest” with acquired techniques from “Were Were Liking” and “Manu Na Njock” (therapeutic theatre). She has been a theatre instructor for almost 10 years with experience in France and Canada.

Some of her experience as a stage director comes from writing and directing « Palabre de femmes » and presenting it in France and Canada long with the help of the Ethny group. This play aided in creating awareness in regards to various issues women have.

Furthermore, another play entitled « Moi, mon reflet dans le regard des autres », also written and directed by Adrienne, helped create awareness about social exclusion and the problems that arise with it.

In addition, she also is a skilled story-teller. She has written and acted in short stories for children and adults based on historical events to educate her audience on Africa, Canadian, Asian, European and Latin American cultures. Since 2010, she has been a part of the “Festival International de Littérature de Montreal Métropolis Bleu” in which she was presented as author and story-teller who wrote and presented works such as Izerka la reine Kemet (co-written by Carolina Cortes), Kamba la petite fille du Kasaï, Tchanda le guerrier bantou, Asaia: l’esprit Masai, Kongolo et les valeurs perdues.

Vincent will provide you with training in perfect wine etiquette, how to select wine in a restaurant or store, how to serve specific wines, how to taste and describe a wine (to impress friends at your next gathering.....)

Every Tuesday, you will have conversations on the world of wine. Each week, you will sample a variety of different wines (4 per class).

This workshop will provide you with a vocabulary for wine and the fundamentals of wine tasting.

Vincent Cotte

Starting on the front line of hospitality in Paris, including two years spent at the 3 star Michelin-rated Taillevent Restaurant in Paris, Vincent relocated to Canada in 1990 as Restaurant Manager / Sommelier at Langdon Hall in Cambridge, ON. Moving on through other management and Sommelier roles at the Auberge du Pommier in Toronto, he moved into his first Director level position at the Westin Harbour Castle Hotel in Toronto. He then moved on to become Corporate Director of Food & Beverage at Vintage Inns, then General Manager of the Pillar & Post Inn at Niagara-on-the-Lake.

Opening his own hospitality consulting practice, Vincent developed wine list / wine training business plans and marketing strategies, coached sales teams, and created job descriptions and operations manuals for a variety of clients. He returned to a hands-on management role as Director of Food and Beverage at the Brookstreet Resort in Ottawa and held the role of General Manager of the Old Mill Inn and Spa in Toronto. During his career, Vincent received various award from the Wine Spectator, Cuvee and have been featured in Toronto Life, Globe & Mail, Wine Access, Financial post .....

Get ready to sing french opera songs in a concert.

In partnership with “Opera for all”, Alliance Française invites you to the discovery of some airs from three of the most famous French operas.

Guided by Marlène Marwah, choir singer and French teacher, the participants will be initiated to the rhythm, the melody and the pronunciation of the lyrics from:

  • Carmen de Bizet : air d’Habanera
  • Carmen de Bizet : choeur des gamins
  • Les contes d'Hoffmann d'Offenbach : Barcarolle

The timing of these workshops allows participants to register to sing in Opera for All with Maestro Alvaro Lozano Gutierrez at the MNjcc (80 metres from the Spadina campus), including a community performance on July 31, 2017 at Trinity St-Paul's Centre.

Marlène Marwah

Marlene Marwah has lived in Toronto for 35 years. She has a love of music, but voice is her passion. She has been a member of several auditioned choirs, both mixed and women voices, for over three decades.

She has extensive experience of teaching French as a second language, with particular emphasis on pronunciation (articulatory phonetics, her area of specialization).

Introduce yourself to the art of professional photography

Participants learn to use their camera in a professional way, how to use editing software for photography, read a photograph and to do indoor / outdoor photo shooting.


  • Optimize the potential of your camera: fixing, setting, adjusting processes. Participants are invited to bring their own device.

Jean-Baptiste Lemercier

Currently living and working in Toronto, Jean-Baptiste has previously worked in Paris for different magazines. As a portraitist, he likes to take pictures in studio but also outside with a “documentary approach”. Interested by people in their environment and how they react to one another, he likes to improvise “in situ” portraits.
